UW Health and Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield reach new contract deal in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - UW Health and Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield have signed a new contract in Wisconsin, UW Health announced on Wednesday.
According to UW Health, the agreement says Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield patients in Wisconsin will continue to have access to affordable care at UW Health locations, including UW Hospitals and Clinics, UW Medical Foundation, Madison Surgery Center, UW Health Fertility Care, UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital and UW Health Care Direct and UnityPoint Health – Meriter.
“Our mission is to provide remarkable health care, and that includes working to ensure access for our community to the top-quality care, state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge clinical trials at UW Health,” said Dr. Alan Kaplan, who is chief executive officer at UW Health. “We’re glad to have reached a new agreement with Anthem that will provide long-term benefits for patients.”
UW Health said the contract will apply for Anthem members who are covered by employer-based, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and Affordable Care Act Marketplace health plans in Wisconsin.
In February, UW Health reported that the company may no longer be an in-network option for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield users, as the health system reported an agreement to extend with the insurance company had not been reached. The prior contract was set to expire April 15.
