As Duke’s men’s basketball looks to capture their sixth national championship, and their first under coach Jon Scheyer, cheering loudly from the stands will be Jon’s wife, Marcelle Scheyer.

“Seeing Jon in his element and coaching at the best place in the world, in my opinion, has been a dream come true,” she told WRAL, adding that she hopes he coaches at Duke “forever.” She considers herself a “mom of the basketball team.”

“I just want to wrap them [up] and keep them safe. There’s so much that they are exposed to. They’re young and amazing guys.”

Here get to know Jon Scheyer’s wife Michelle Scheyer (née Provencial):

She’s from Florida.

Marcelle, born in June 1987, grew up in the Sunshine State.

Marcelle and Jon tied the knot in 2017.

They have three children: Noa Marie (born January 2018), Jett James (August 2019), and James Russell (May 2022).

She works as a nurse practitioner.

Marcelle graduated from Duke with a master’s in nursing in 2016, and works as a family nurse practitioner in the area now. “I’ve always been interested in health care and clinical research,” she said.

She and Jon launched the Scheyer Kid Captain program in 2022.

The program “provides a connection between the Duke Basketball program and the life-saving work performed daily at Duke Children’s – one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals – by inviting a patient and family from Duke Children’s to spend a game day with the team, attend practice and sit behind the bench,” per Jon’s official bio.

“The players may be inspiring to these kids and giving them strength and something to look forward to,” she told the Associated Press. “But I always say, they’re just as inspiring to us and to our team, seeing the strength that they have and their fight and their joy. The way they look at the world is inspiring.”

She added of joining the Kid Captains at mid court, “I definitely get teary-eyed and choked up, but I also cry all the time…I’m such an emotional [person], especially when it comes to kids. I have three kids of my own, and thinking about what these parents and families are going through, it’s just unthinkable. I feel so honored to be able to be a part and to lead this program. I wish we could do it a million times over.”
