Everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to steak prep. While a Michelin-starred chef might argue that medium rare is the only way to order it, who are we to judge if someone wants their filet burnt to a crisp?
However, not everyone's interpretation of steak temperature is necessarily consistent. One person decided to take the debate to Reddit after her boyfriend claimed she was "wrong" about how medium rare should look.
"Made a small roast to celebrate my boyfriend’s promotion, and asked how he’d like it done. He said on the rare side of medium rare. When served, he looked at it strangely, and asked if I was sure it was done," the user wrote in the thread. "I told him it was how my family always referred to steaks as medium rare, and he said they were wrong, and I shouldn’t trust any of their advice on cooking."
The original poster went on to clarify that they "never really went out to restaurants for steak growing up" and their interpretation of medium rare was solely based on how their "family cooked" for them. "What are your thoughts, Reddit? Has my family always described their steaks wrong?" They asked.
The consensus? The boyfriend is dead wrong. The entire internet was quick to jump to the OP's defense. "This is insane to me—he literally got what he asked for," one person responded. "Literally should be the photo in a culinary book for what medium rare should look like," another commented. "That is 100%, spot-on, the rare side of medium rare," someone else wrote.
"When I first read the title and looked at the picture I thought, 'well, maybe it’s just a little bit on the rare side of medium rare,'" a third person chimed in. "Then read OPs description and see that that is literally what the bf asked for. Can’t get much more exact."
Others downright roasted the boyfriend: "This steak is the dream and her bf is a moron lol," one user added. "Your boyfriend wants medium," someone else replied.
"I can just imagine the smug look on OP’s face when they show this thread to their BF 😂," a person joked.
No, for real, can we get his reaction? Or a livestream of him actually trying a medium rare steak for the first time? PLEASE.
