Like 1923's Spencer Dutton, the version of Perry Mason (played by Matthew Rhys) who appears in HBO's revival of the beloved legal drama is a former soldier who's haunted by his service in WWI. While Mason's detective work and legal battles may not harken back to the Sheridan-verse, for those looking for emotionally-effective drama set in the Depression era, this one's a winner.
