Qatar making huge efforts to protect rights of workers

DOHA: Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, H E Dr Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, stressed that the State of Qatar is making continuous efforts at the legislative and institutional level on protecting the rights of workers and providing decent work for men and women alike.

In his speech during participating in the 107th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva, Dr Al Nuaimi commended the Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) on his report to the Conference, which included the initiative of empowering women to work and pushing towards their equality with men, which reflects the importance of the ILO's contribution to achieving sustainable development 2030.

The Minister expressed Qatar's concern about the difficult situation faced by Palestinian women, calling for intensified efforts to support their access to the basic rights to work, as set forth in the ILO conventions. He participated in the International Forum of Solidarity with the Workers and the People of Palestine, which was held at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister met with Jordan's Minister of Labour, the President of the Conference; Palestine's Minister of Labour; Minister of Labour of the Republic of Benin. He also met with ILO Director General Jay Ryder; Head of the ILO Employers' Group Mthunzi Mdwaba. The meetings dealt with bilateral relations as well as means to promote joint cooperation and exchanging expertise.
